Southwest Misses Required Plane Inspections!!!

Hopefully Southwest will receive a penalty of $10.2 million from The Federal Aviation Administration due to flying close to 50 aircrafts subsequent to admitting to regulators that they had missed required safety inspections for cracks in their older planes. In case that is not bad enough, it has come to light that The Federal Aviation Administration, did not ground the Southwest planes last year when it became obvious that the jets had not been checked for cracks in the fuselage.

The required inspection take a mere 90 minutes. "The company said it had 520 Boeing 737 jets at the end of last year. Nearly 200 of them are older models, the Boeing 737-300, that were supposed to undergo extra inspections for cracks in the fuselage." Three Southwest employees are on paid leave while the lack of safety inspections are investigated. The FAA is conducting its own review.

This is really unconscionable, between the failure of Southwest to inspect the aircrafts and then the failure of the FAA to ground the jets in question. How do these people sleep at night. Makes one wonder if the would-be inspectors' families fly Southwest.
