Plane Crashes at Camp Pendleton; Three Injured

According to Marine Corps and Federal Aviation Administration officials, a civilian plane crashed Saturday on the beach at Camp Pendleton. All three passengers on board were injured, two of them critically. One victim was arilifted to a hospital while the otehr two were taken by ambulance.

The plane, a single-engine Cessna 172, crashed about 5:50 p.m., said Ian Gregor, an FAA spokesman. The crash occured west of I-5 on Red Beach, near the Las Pulgas Rd. exit, said Lt. Riley Whaling, spokesman for Marine Corps Installations West.

The plane was headed to Montgomery Field in San Diego, but it wasn't clear when or from where it took off.
