Gloria Sheets filed suit on her former employer, Humboldt County District Attorney Paul Gallegos, as a result of being terminated in 2003. The termination occured five months after Gallegos was sworn in and after Sheets had worked with the office for eight-and-one-half years.

Prior to being terminated, Ms. Sheets had been on workers compensation leave for a disability claim. Mr. Gallegos explained that he was forced to terminate Ms. Sheets due to the loss of grant funding that helped pay her yearly salary of more than $80,000. Mr. Galegos further explained that there is a difference in being fired and being terminated, and Ms. Sheets had been terminated. Ms. Sheets, while disappointed with the verdict, feels there are many options to consider.
