FDA's Inspection of Heparin Plant in China Completed

Since it has been determined that an active ingredient in heparin, which was put on the market by Baxter, came from China, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has completed an inspection of the plant. The plant is owned by the supplier of an active ingredient in heparin. The FDA were hoping to gain insight into the cause of the adverse effects that consumers are experiencing while using the defective product. Unfortunitly, the inspection did not yield the hoped for insights as to the cause of the adverse events heparin users are currently experiencing.

To date, hundreds of people have been affected adversely by this drug, and as many as 19 deaths have been reported. The FDA are quick to point out, however, that the people who have died were extremely ill and therefor they cannot say at this time whether their deaths were caused by the use of heparin.
