After illegally prescribing drugs to his wife for years, a prominent San Diego neurologist's wife died due to an overdose and as a result of her husband's medical mal practice. James Grisolia, M.D. is currently on probation due to the fallout of the investigation. Doctor Grisolia has had quite a fall of late. At one time, he was a respected San Diego Neurologist, in fact, he was in line for the prestigious and powerful job of chief of staff at Scripps Mercy Hospital. So what happened to cause such a downward spiral.

Grisolia has admitted that he violated the law when he wrote false, addictive prescriptions to his wife and several other patients. Although, he has also stated that there was nothing wrong with the care he provided his wife, Linda, or any of the other patients for whom he wrote false prescriptions for addictive drugs. His attorney stated that his client is "very remorseful" about the death of his wife. Indeed. Her family has stated that Linda trusted her husband, and when it became obvious that she was in trouble the good doctor did nothing. According to the Medical Board, Grisolia wrote more than 90 prescriptions for more than 20 different drugs for his wife in the decade before her death.
