Chinese Chemical Kills 94 and Counting

It has recently come to light that in Panama, a chemical that was made in China and was fraudulently passed off as a product that is 99.5 percent pure glycerin - a sweetner commonly found in drugs- is responsible for the deaths of 94 people. Prosecutor Dimas Guevara, a top Panamanian prosecutor said " tests show at least 94 people have died from taking medicine contaminated with diethylene glycol since July 2006 and that 293 more deaths are under investigation."

Apparently, the chemical known as 'diethylene glycol', which is often found in brake fluid and antifreeze, was used in cough syrup, ointment, tablets and lotion. As the tangled web unfolds it seems that the Chinese sold the defective product to a Spanish company. The Spanish company then sold it to a Panamanian company. From there, it went to a government lab.
