Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave orders to Hope Foods to shut down and recall all of their products that were made in their Texas location since 2007.

Hope Foods makes smoked seafood products. The company neglected to implement an adequate Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP). The plan is mandated by the FDA, and is considered critical.

"We simply will not allow a company to put the public's health at risk by not implementing adequate procedures and plans to produce safe food," said Margaret O'K. Glavin, associate commissioner for regulatory affairs.

The plan in question would identify all food safety hazards specific to each particular product. Once the hazards are identified, controls must be in place to prevent and/or control the hazards. As a result of the shut down, the FDA is advising consumers who have purchased any smoked seafood products to check with the place of purchase to determine if the products came from Hope Foods. If so, discard immediately.
