Deadly Chemical Found in Pet Food

The pet food recall nightmare began long before March 2007 when the recall was announced by Menu Foods. The contaminated pet food was sold to consumers at least as far back as December 2006. Now, more pets are dying and getting seriously ill from contaminated pet food as the recall list broadens.

The pet food recall now includes some dry food. Additionally, Del Monte Foods has announced a possible contamination of pet food treats. Recently millions of consumers were told that rat poison in pet food might be killing their pets. Consumers have been warned to stay away from any pet food products that contain wheat gluten. However, the latest announcement stated that the problem might be due to a chemical used to make plastic.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, a shipment of wheat gluten, which came from China, has been found to contain the chemical 'malemine' that is used to make plastics. This discovery brings into question the earlier findings of the rat poison aminopterin. However, the lab is standing by its findings. These annoucements have left consumers deeply concerned about what is safe to feet their pets.
