It may not be the ideal time to eat pork since the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced on Tuesday that they have been forced to quarantine hog farms in no less than five states. The concern is that feed that was given to the hogs may have been contaminated with melamine. Additionally, one poultry farm in Missouri is also feared to be contaminated.

The affected states are California, North Carolina, South Caroline, New York, Utah and possibly Ohio. Hog urine samples have tested positive for melamine. Grain products such as wheat gluten, corn gluten, corn meal, soy protein, rice bran and rice protein, which are used in foods ranging from bread to baby formula, will be inspected for melamine contamination. At this juncture, the FDA has stated that it will not ban imports of wheat gluten, rice protein or similar products from China.
